  abstract = {{C}reation of a marine protected area ({MPA}) in '{T}aza' ({G}ulf of {B}{\'e}jaia, {A}lgeria-{SW} {M}editerranean) was first proposed by the staff of {T}aza {N}ational {P}ark in 2000. {T}he main objective of this work was to identify the m{\'e}tiers practiced by artisanal fishermen in this area through direct observation method of daily landings. {I}t is found that among the five m{\'e}tiers characterized by target species, gear type, fishing grounds, and fishing seasons, two m{\'e}tiers ("{M}ullus surmuletus trammel net" and "{S}parids monofilament gillnet") are practiced throughout the year, while the remaining three ('{S}arda sarda driftnet', '{M}erluccius merluccius set gillnet', and '{P}agellus set gillnet') are specific to a determined period of the year. {M}oreover, the spatial distribution of fishing effort shows that the fishing grounds are mainly at depths <100 m.},
