@article{fdi:010083579, title = {{A}ssessment of genetic diversity of rice in registered cultivars and farmers' fields in {B}urkina {F}aso}, author = {{B}arro, {M}. and {K}onate, {K}.{A}. and {W}onni, {I}. and {K}assankogno, {A}.{I}. and {S}abot, {F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {A}lbar, {L}aurence and {S}omda, {I}. and {B}{\'e}na, {G}illes and {G}hesqui{\`e}re, {A}lain and {K}am, {H}. and {S}i{\'e}, {M}. and {C}ubry, {P}hilippe and {T}ollenaere, {C}harlotte}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he genetic diversity of cultivated rice in farmers' fields remains understudied in {W}est {A}frica despite the importance of rice for food security in this region. {I}n this study, we genotyped rice samples from {B}urkina {F}aso using the {C}6{AIR} {SNP} ({S}ingle {N}ucleotide {P}olymorphism) array ({IRRI}), including 27 registered cultivars and 50 rice samples collected in rice fields from three geographical zones in western {B}urkina {F}aso. {M}ost of the registered cultivars clustered with the indica genetic group, except seven assigned to japonica and one admix. {A}ll but one of the rice samples from farmers' fields belonged to the indica group. {T}he other field sample, which unexpectedly clustered with the {A}us genetic group, originated from a rainfed lowland site known to differ in terms of agronomic practices, and which revealed to be highly differentiated from the five other sites. {A}part from this peculiar site, the rice grown in irrigated areas did not differ from rice sampled in rainfed lowlands. {F}inally, obtained genetic data confirmed the high frequency of one cultivar, in congruence with farmers' interviews. {W}e argue on the importance to document and preserve the high agro-biodiversity observed in rice from {B}urkina {F}aso as a prerequisite to face the current challenges of growing rice demand and global change.}, keywords = {{BURKINA} {FASO}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}rops}, volume = {1}, numero = {3}, pages = {129--141}, ISSN = {2673-7655}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.3390/crops1030013}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083579}, }
