@article{fdi:010083386, title = {{L}aboratory study of an innovative concept to control aphid pests and mosquito vectors of pathogens to humans}, author = {{D}arriet, {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}ric}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{BACKGROUND} {A} great number of areas favourable for the proliferation of mosquitoes are found in farmland, the most favourable being market gardens and rice paddies. {T}he only means of limiting crop pests ({AGRI}) and mosquito vectors of human pathogens ({AC} = antivectorial control) in agricultural environments consists of incorporating systemic or translaminar insecticides into fertilizers ({AGRIAC}). {T}he plant used in this study was the chili pepper ({C}apsicum chinensis). {E}xperiments were carried out with {M}yzus persicae aphid pests and {A}edes albopictus mosquitoes. {F}ertilizers were applied in association with thiacloprid, cyromazine, azadirachtin and {B}acillus thuringiensis var. israelensis ({B}ti) + {B}acillus sphaericus ({B}s) insecticides. {C}hili pepper seedlings were dried to assess the amount of insecticide in their tissues. {RESULTS} {NPK} + thiacloprid and {NPK} + azadirachtin remained efficient against aphids for 28 days, whereas {B}ti + {B}s had to be added to both mixtures to make them efficient against {A}e. albopictus larvae. {NPK} + cyromazine remained active against both aphids and mosquitoes for 15 days. {T}he search for insecticide residues in chili pepper showed that untreated plants displayed natural toxicity to {A}e. albopictus larvae. {T}he toxic effects induced by the capsaicinoid compounds inside the plant add up to the insecticide action of thiacloprid, cyromazine and azadiractin. {CONCLUSION} {T}he {AGRIAC} concept allows for an innovative vector control method that can manage aphid pests and mosquitoes while providing plants with the needed fertilizer.}, keywords = {{AGRIAC} concept ; chili pepper plant ; {M}yzus persicae ; {A}edes albopictus ; fertilizer ; insecticide}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}est {M}anagement {S}cience}, volume = {78}, numero = {3}, pages = {1071--1080}, ISSN = {1526-498{X}}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1002/ps.6718}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083386}, }
