@article{fdi:010083334, title = {{G}enetic diversity of type 3 secretion system in {B}urkholderia s.l. and links with plant host adaptation}, author = {{W}allner, {A}. and {M}oulin, {L}ionel and {B}usset, {N}icolas and {R}imbault, {I}sabelle and {B}{\'e}na, {G}illes}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}urkholderia sensu lato species are prominent for their diversity of hosts. {T}he type 3 secretion system ({T}3{SS}) is a major mechanism impacting the interactions between bacteria and eukaryotic hosts. {B}esides the human pathogenic species {B}urkholderia pseudomallei and closely affiliated species, the {T}3{SS} has received little attention in this genus as in taxonomically and evolutionary close genera {P}araburkholderia, {C}aballeronia, {T}rinickia, and {M}ycetohabitans. {W}e proceeded to identify and characterize the diversity of {T}3{SS} types using the genomic data from a subset of 145 strains representative of the species diversity found in the {B}urkholderia s.l. group. {T}hrough an analysis of their phylogenetic distribution, we identified two new {T}3{SS} types with an atypical chromosomal organization and which we propose to name {BCI} ({B}urkholderia cepacia complex {I}njectisome) and {PSI} ({P}araburkholderia {S}hort {I}njectisome). {BCI} is the dominant {T}3{SS} type found in {B}urkholderia sensu stricto (s.s.) species and {PSI} is mostly restricted to the {P}araburkholderia genus. {B}y correlating their distribution with the ecology of their strains of origin, we propose a role in plant interaction for these {T}3{SS} types. {E}xperimentally, we demonstrated that a {BCI} deficient {B}. vietnamiensis {LMG}10929 mutant was strongly affected in its rice colonization capacity.}, keywords = {type three secretion system ({T}3{SS}) ; {O}ryza ; root colonization ; {P}araburkholderia ; {PGPR}-plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria ; pathogen}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}rontiers in {M}icrobiology}, volume = {12}, numero = {}, pages = {761215 [13 ]}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.3389/fmicb.2021.761215}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083334}, }
