@article{fdi:010083287, title = {{C}omplete genome sequence of a novel marafivirus infecting pearl millet in {B}urkina {F}aso}, author = {{P}alanga, {E}ssowe and {T}ibiri, {E}. {B}. and {B}angratz, {M}artine and {F}illoux, {D}. and {J}ulian, {C}. and {G}alzi, {A}gn{\`e}s and {K}oala, {M}. and {N}eya, {J}. {B}. and {B}rugidou, {C}hristophe and {T}iendrebeogo, {F}. and {R}oumagnac, {P}. and {H}{\'e}brard, {E}ug{\'e}nie}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{P}earl millet ({P}ennisetum glaucum ({L}.) {R}. {B}r.) is a staple food that is widely cultivated in sub-{S}aharan {A}frica. {I}n {A}ugust 2018, a survey was conducted in the main producing regions of {B}urkina {F}aso, and leaf samples were analyzed using virion-associated nucleic acid ({VANA})-based metagenomic approach and {I}llumina sequencing. {A} new virus, tentatively named "{P}ennisetum glaucum marafivirus" ({PGMV}), was detected, and its complete nucleotide sequence of 6364 nucleotides was determined. {T}he sequence contains a large open reading frame ({ORF}) encoding a polyprotein of 224.2 k{D}a with five domains (methyltransferase, papain-like protease, helicase, {RNA}-dependent {RNA} polymerase, and coat proteins), typical of marafiviruses. {A}dditionally, a characteristic conserved marafibox domain was detected in the genome. {T}he nucleotide sequence of the complete {PGMV} genome shares 68.5% identity with that of sorghum bicolor marafivirus, and its coat protein shares 58.5% identity with that of oat blue dwarf virus. {P}hylogenetic analysis confirmed that the pearl millet virus is unambiguously grouped with members of the genus {M}arafivirus in the family {T}ymoviridae. {T}his is the first report on the occurrence of a marafivirus in pearl millet.}, keywords = {{BURKINA} {FASO}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}rchives of {V}irology}, volume = {167}, numero = {1}, pages = {245--248}, ISSN = {0304-8608}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1007/s00705-021-05262-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083287}, }
