@article{fdi:010083202, title = {{P}rovenance of the {M}iddle {J}urassic-{C}retaceous sedimentary rocks of the {A}requipa {B}asin ({S}outh {P}eru) and implications for the geodynamic evolution of the {C}entral {A}ndes}, author = {{C}havez, {C}. and {R}oddaz, {M}artin and {D}antas, {E}. {L}. and {S}antos, {R}. {V}. and {A}lvan, {A}. {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he provenance of {M}iddle {J}urassic-{C}retaceous sedimentary rocks deposited in the southern {P}eruvian {A}requipa {B}asin has been investigated based on the measurement of 41 {S}r-{S}m-{N}d isotopic compositions of sedimentary rocks, 993 {U}-{P}b zircons ages, and 202 {L}u-{H}f zircon isotope data. {T}he {M}iddle {J}urassic units are dominated by {B}razilian/{P}ampean and {G}renville/{S}unsas and have juvenile to evolved {H}f isotopic compositions of {P}ermian zircons. {T}hese are consistent with an {E}astern {C}ordillera ({EC}) provenance. {I}n contrast, the {L}ate {J}urassic {L}abra {F}ormation presents the first appearance of {T}riassic-{J}urassic zircons and an increase in {F}amatinian zircons thus suggesting a mixed provenance from the {EC} and/or {A}ltiplano and the {C}oastal {C}ordillera ({CC}). {T}he {G}ramadal {F}ormation shows older {U}-{P}b zircon ages, which reflect a major contribution from {P}recambrian sources either from the {A}mazon craton or the {EC} thus implying a change in provenance. {A}nother change in provenance is documented for the {H}ualhuani {F}ormation with sources located both in the {CC} and {EC}. {F}inally, the {S}antonian {C}hilcane {F}ormation is characterized by a large contribution of {C}retaceous to {F}amatinian zircons indicating that it was mainly sourced from the {CC}. {O}ur provenance dataset associated with the depositional setting of the {M}iddle {J}urassic to {E}arly {C}retaceous formations and the cumulative curves of zircon age distribution, indicate that the {A}requipa {B}asin was not a back-arc setting but rather a rift-like setting. {C}ontrary to the older formations, the {C}hilcane {F}ormation is dominated by contributions from the {CC} in a retroarc foreland basin setting. {T}his statement further implies that the {A}ndean basin located eastward of the volcanic arc had evolved directly from a rift to a retroarc foreland basin and implies that the control of {A}ndean subduction on these basins might be much younger than previously thought.}, keywords = {{C}entral {A}ndes ; {J}urassic-{C}retaceous ; {R}ift ; {P}rovenance ; {A}requipa basin ; {PEROU} ; {ANDES} ; {AREQUIPA} {BASSIN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}ondwana {R}esearch}, volume = {101}, numero = {}, pages = {59--76}, ISSN = {1342-937{X}}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1016/j.gr.2021.07.018}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083202}, }
