@article{fdi:010082269, title = {{T}he identity of the long-overlooked {R}onabea morindoides and {P}atabea tenuiflora, synonymous with a species of {A}ppunia ({R}ubiaceae)}, author = {{D}elprete, {P}iero and {T}aylor, {C}. {M}. and {M}c{D}owell, {T}. {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he identity of {R}onabea morindoides {A}. {R}ich. has long been unclear and is here investigated. {T}wo sheets of original material corresponding to this name are deposited in the {G}eneral {H}erbarium of the {N}ational {M}useum of {N}atural {H}istory of {P}aris ({P}), and represent a mixed collection; one part of this material corresponds better with the description of this taxon and is more unambiguously identifiable, and is here designated the lectotype. {W}ith this typification, {R}onabea morindoides represents a species of {A}ppunia {H}ook. f. {T}he identity of {P}atabea tenuiflora {DC}. has also remained uncertain since its description and is here clarified by studying the holotype in the {C}andolle {H}erbarium ({G}-{DC}); this is an additional synonym of {R}. morindoides. {T}axonomic review of this group in the {G}uianas also finds that {R}onabea morindoides is an older name for {A}ppunia brachycalyx ({B}remek.) {S}teyerm. and {A}ppunia surinamensis {B}remek.
