@article{fdi:010082092, title = {{D}eterioration of mental health and insufficient {C}ovid-19 information among disadvantaged immigrants in the greater {P}aris area}, author = {{G}osselin, {A}. and {M}elchior, {M}. and {C}arillon, {S}{\'e}verine and {G}ubert, {F}lore and {R}idde, {V}al{\'e}ry and {K}ohou, {V}. and {Z}oumenou, {I}. and {S}enne, {J}. {N}. and {D}esgr{\'e}es du {L}oû, {A}nnabel and {M}akasi {S}tudy {G}roup}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{O}bjectives: {T}he aim of this study is to provide information on changes in mental health among disadvantaged immigrants from {S}ub-{S}aharan {A}frica in the {G}reater {P}aris area and their level of information about {C}ovid-19. {M}ethods: {P}rior to the {C}ovid-19 epidemic, the {M}akasi community-based cohort followed 850 immigrants from sub-{S}aharan {A}frica in the {G}reater {P}aris area. {B}etween the 1st of {A}pril and the 7th of {J}une 2020, all participants scheduled for a follow-up survey were systematically included into an additional {COVID}-19-related wave of data collection ({N} = 100). {W}e compared participants' type of housing, level of food insecurity, work and mental health ({PHQ}9) before and during the first {COVID}-19-related lockdown, using paired-{M}c {N}emar chi-2 tests. {W}e next described their level of information on {C}ovid-19 and policy measures, broken down by sex. {R}esults: {A}mong the 100 participants, 68% had no legal residence permit. {F}ood insecurity was more often reported during lockdown than before (62% vs 52%). 9% of participants had a score indicative of severe depression ({PHQ}9) before lockdown and 17% afterwards (p = 0.17). {O}nly 51% knew about the possibility of asymptomatic transmission of the {COVID}-19 virus. {C}onclusions: {T}his study brings original information on a hard-to-reach population group. {O}ur results suggest that the lockdown had a detrimental impact on various economic and mental health aspects among disadvantaged migrants residing in the {G}reater {P}aris area.}, keywords = {{I}mmigrants ; {C}ovid-19 ; {M}ental health ; {S}ocial epidemiology ; {L}ockdown containment ; {FRANCE} ; {PARIS}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {P}sychosomatic {R}esearch}, volume = {146}, numero = {}, pages = {110504 [4 ]}, ISSN = {0022-3999}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jpsychores.2021.110504}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010082092}, }
