("cat's claw", {R}ubiaceae) is a plant with potential to treat asthma because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. {T}he aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of two extracts of {U}. guianensisin an animal model of allergic asthma. {B}alb/c mice were sensitized twice with ovalbumin intraperitoneally one week apart, then challenged with intranasal ovalbumin for three days. {A}nimals weretreated with aqueous or hydroethanolic extracts (100 mg/kg) for three days, simultaneously with ovalbumin challenges. {C}ontrol mice received saline solution on the same days. {I}n vivo bronchial hyper responsiveness, airway and lung inflammation, {I}g{E} levels, and total antioxidant capacitywere measured. {T}reatment with the hydroethanolic extract significantly reduced total cell and eosinophil counts in bronchoalveolar lavage, and in vivobronchial hyper responsiveness. {M}oreover, {U}. guianensis hydroethanolic extract significantly reduced interleukin 13 levels in lung homogenate. {T}otal antioxidant capacity and {I}g{E} serum levels were not affected with the extract administration. {O}f note, treatment with the aqueous extract did not elicit significant effectson asthma-like characteristics. {O}nly the hydroethanolic extractof {U}. guianensis reduced lung inflammation and bronchial hyper responsiveness in asthmatic mice}, keywords = {{BRESIL} ; {SAO} {PAULO}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {P}harmacognosy and {P}hytotherapy}, volume = {12}, numero = {4}, pages = {{D}1{AB}63{A}64968 [81--93]}, ISSN = {2141-2502}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.5897/{JPP}2020.0578}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081728}, }
