@article{fdi:010081369, title = {{F}ast expansion of the {A}sian-{P}acific genotype of the {C}hikungunya virus in {I}ndonesia}, author = {{A}nggraeni, {Y}. {M}. and {G}arjito, {T}. {A}. and {P}rihatin, {M}. {T}. and {H}andayani, {S}. {W}. and {N}egari, {K}. {S}. and {Y}anti, {A}. {O}. and {H}idajat, {M}. {C}. and {P}rastowo, {D}. and {S}atoto, {T}. {B}. {T}. and {M}anguin, {S}ylvie and {G}avotte, {L}. and {F}rutos, {R}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}hikungunya is repeatedly affecting {I}ndonesia through successive outbreaks. {T}he {A}sian genotype has been present in {A}sia since the late 1950s while the {ECSA}-{IOL} ({E}ast/{C}entral/{S}outh {A}frica - {I}ndian {O}cean {L}ineage) genotype invaded {A}sia in 2005. {I}n order to determine the extension of the circulation of the chikungunya virus ({CHIKV}) in {I}ndonesia, mosquitoes were collected in 28 different sites from 12 {I}ndonesian provinces in 2016-2017. {T}he {E}1 subunit of the {CHIKV} envelope gene was sequenced while mosquitoes were genotyped using the mitochondrial cox1 (cytochrome {C} oxidase subunit 1) gene to determine whether a specific population was involved in the vectoring of {CHIKV}. {A} total of 37 {CHIKV} samples were found in 28 {A}edes aegypti, 8 {A}edes albopictus and 1 {A}edes butleri out of 15,362 samples collected and tested. {T}hese viruses, like all {I}ndonesian {CHIKV} since 2000, belonged to a genotype we propose to call the {A}sian-{P}acific genotype. {I}t also comprises the {Y}ap isolates and viruses having emerged in {P}olynesia, the {C}aribbean and {S}outh {A}merica. {T}hey differ from the {CHIKV} of the {A}sian genotype found earlier in {I}ndonesia indicating a replacement. {T}hese results raise the question of the mechanisms behind this fast and massive replacement.}, keywords = {chikungunya ; {A}edes aegypti ; {A}edes albopictus ; genotyping ; {I}ndonesia ; {INDONESIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}rontiers in {C}ellular and {I}nfection {M}icrobiology}, volume = {11}, numero = {}, pages = {631508 [9 ]}, ISSN = {2235-2988}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.3389/fcimb.2021.631508}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081369}, }
