@article{fdi:010081279, title = {{M}olecular phylogeny of {A}tractocarpus ({R}ubiaceae) : taxonomic implications for several {N}ew {C}aledonian {G}ardenieae species}, author = {{M}ouly, {A}. and {B}arrabe, {L}. and {B}ruy, {D}avid}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground and aims - {N}ew {C}aledonia is a hotspot of biodiversity in the world. {A}mong the most diverse {N}ew {C}aledonian plant families is {R}ubiaceae, which consist of 30 genera containing 220 species, with a level of endemism of 93%. {T}he tribe {G}ardenieae is represented by four genera, {G}ardenia (8 species), {A}idia (2 species), {R}andia (7 species), and {A}tractocarpus (10 species). {A}s {R}andia has now been restricted to the {N}eotropics, the {N}ew {C}aledonian {R}andia species remain unplaced within the tribe. {A}tractocarpus is a {P}acific genus, easily characterized by long imbricated stipules, a feature also present in the {R}andia species and in several {G}ardenia species in {N}ew {C}aledonia. {T}he aims of the present study are to test the monophyly of {A}tractocarpus and to assess the phylogenetic placement of the {R}andia and {G}ardenia species with long imbricated stipules within {G}ardenieae and specifically their relationships with taxa of the {P}orterandia group to which {A}tractocarpus belongs. {M}aterial and methods - {W}e investigated 63 species of {P}acific {G}ardenieae, with a focus on the {P}orterandia group, in a {B}ayesian phylogenetic reconstruction (cp{DNA}: trn{TF} and rpl32, and nr{DNA}: {ITS}). {K}ey results - {O}ur study provides a mostly supported consensus tree topology of the {P}orterandia group. {F}ive {G}ardenia and seven {R}andia species fall within a clade that comprises the {N}ew {C}aledonian {A}tractocarpus species, rendering both {A}tractocarpus and {G}ardenia polyphyletic. {C}onclusion - {W}e enlarge the delimitation of {A}tractocarpus to include 12 {N}ew {C}aledonian {R}andia and {G}ardenia species. {N}ew {C}aledonia is consequently confirmed as the centre of diversity for {A}tractocarpus with 31 species. {A}ccording to our study, three genera of {G}ardenieae occur in the archipelago: {A}idia, {G}ardenia, and {A}tractocarpus.}, keywords = {{A}tractocarpus ; centre of diversity ; {G}ardenia ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; {P}acific {I}slands ; {P}orterandia group ; {R}andia ; {R}ubiaceae ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}lant {E}cology and {E}volution}, volume = {154}, numero = {1}, pages = {111--120}, ISSN = {2032-3913}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.5091/plecevo.2021.1744}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081279}, }
