@article{fdi:010081104, title = {{I}dentification of type {III} effectors modulating the symbiotic properties of {B}radyrhizobium vignae strain {ORS}3257 with various {V}igna species}, author = {{S}ongwattana, {P}. and {C}haintreuil, {C}l{\'e}mence and {W}ongdee, {J}. and {T}eulet, {A}lbin and {M}baye, {M}. and {P}iromyou, {P}. and {G}ully, {D}jamel and {F}ardoux, {J}o{\¨e}l and {Z}oumman, {A}. {M}. {A}. and {C}amuel, {A}. and {T}ittabutr, {P}. and {T}eaumroong, {N}. and {G}iraud, {E}ric}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {B}radyrhizobium vignae strain {ORS}3257 is an elite strain recommended for cowpea inoculation in {S}enegal. {T}his strain was recently shown to establish symbioses on some {A}eschynomene species using a cocktail of {T}ype {III} effectors ({T}3{E}s) secreted by the {T}3{SS} machinery. {I}n this study, using a collection of mutants in different {T}3{E}s genes, we sought to identify the effectors that modulate the symbiotic properties of {ORS}3257 in three {V}igna species ({V}. unguiculata, {V}. radiata and {V}. mungo). {W}hile the {T}3{SS} had a positive impact on the symbiotic efficiency of the strain in {V}. unguiculata and {V}. mungo, it blocked symbiosis with {V}. radiata. {T}he combination of effectors promoting nodulation in {V}. unguiculata and {V}. mungo differed, in both cases, {N}op{T} and {N}op{AB} were involved, suggesting they are key determinants for nodulation, and to a lesser extent, {N}op{M}1 and {N}op{P}1, which are additionally required for optimal symbiosis with {V}. mungo. {I}n contrast, only one effector, {N}op{P}2, was identified as the cause of the incompatibility between {ORS}3257 and {V}. radiata. {T}he identification of key effectors which promote symbiotic efficiency or render the interaction incompatible is important for the development of inoculation strategies to improve the growth of {V}igna species cultivated in {A}frica and {A}sia.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cientific {R}eports - {N}ature}, volume = {11}, numero = {1}, pages = {4874 [12 p.]}, ISSN = {2045-2322}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1038/s41598-021-84205-w}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081104}, }
