@article{fdi:010081103, title = {{I}ntegrating morphological and molecular approaches for characterizing four species of {D}actylogyrus ({M}onogenea : {D}actylogyridae) from {M}oroccan cyprinids, with comments on their host specificity and phylogenetic relationships}, author = {{R}ehulkova, {E}. and {R}ahmouni, {I}. and {P}ariselle, {A}ntoine and {S}imkova, {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}yprinid fishes are known to harbour highly host-specific gill-associated parasites of {D}actylogyrus. {H}igh similarity in the morphology of sclerotized structures among {D}actylogyrus species, especially those parasitizing congeneric cyprinoids, makes their identification difficult. {I}n this paper, four previously known species of {D}actylogyrus are characterized and illustrated under a reliable taxonomic framework integrating morphological and molecular evidence, and their phylogenetic relationships are investigated using molecular data. {T}he species are as follows: {D}. borjensis from {L}uciobarbus zayanensis; {D}. draaensis from {L}uciobarbus lepineyi; {D}. ksibii from {L}uciobarbus ksibi and {L}uciobarbus rabatensis; and {D}. marocanus from {C}arasobarbus fritschii, {L}. ksibi, {L}. zayanensis and {P}terocapoeta maroccana. {O}ur results revealed intraspecific genetic variability among specimens of {D}. ksibii collected from two different hosts and geographically distant basins. {P}hylogenetic reconstruction showed that {D}actylogyrus spp. parasitizing {M}oroccan cyprinids are representatives of three main lineages corresponding to morphological differences and host specificity. {O}ur records of {D}. marocanus on {L}. zayanensis and {P}. maroccana increase the range of available host species i.e.,eight species of four cyprinid genera representing two phylogenetic lineages (i.e., {B}arbinae and {T}orinae).}, keywords = {{P}arasite ; {M}onogenea ; {D}actylogyrus ; {C}yprinidae ; {L}uciobarbus ; {M}orocco ; {P}hylogeny ; {H}ost specificity ; {DNA} ; {C}arasobarbus ; {P}terocapoeta ; {MAROC}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}eerj}, volume = {9}, numero = {}, pages = {e10867 [26 p.]}, ISSN = {2167-8359}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.7717/peerj.10867}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081103}, }
