@article{fdi:010081070, title = {{O}tolith {S}r/{C}a ratio complements {S}r isotopes to reveal fish migration in large basins with heterogeneous geochemical landscapes [+ {C}orrection, 2023, 106, p.1493}, author = {{A}vigliano, {E}. and {P}isonero, {J}. and {B}ouchez, {J}. and {P}ouilly, {M}arc and {D}omanico, {A}. and {S}anchez, {S}. and {C}lavijo, {C}. and {S}carabotti, {P}. and {F}acetti, {J}. {F}. and {C}affetti, {J}. {D}. and del {R}osso, {F}. {R}. and {V}egh, {S}. {L}. and {V}olpedo, {A}. {V}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he potential use of {S}r/{C}a and {B}a/{C}a ratios in fish otolith, as a complement to {S}r-87/{S}r-86 to study movements of {P}rochilodus lineatus, was evaluated in the {L}a {P}lata {B}asin ({S}outh {A}merica). {W}ater ratios were obtained from samples collected during the high and low water seasons at 42 sites across the {L}a {P}lata {B}asin. {E}lemental and isotopic ratios in water were measured by {MC}-{ICP}-{MS}, {ICP}-{MS} and ion chromatography, and obtained from available literature. {F}ish were caught from six different sites with different physiochemical features. {O}tolith core-to-edge {S}r/{C}a and {B}a/{C}a profiles were determined by {LA}-{ICP}-{MS}, while the otolith {S}r-87/{S}r-86 data set was taken from literature. {T}he predictive classification by rivers according to water {S}r/{C}a, {B}a/{C}a and {S}r-87/{S}r-86 ratios (92.5%) was higher than that based solely on {S}r-87/{S}r-86 (58%), with classification that reached 100% for several rivers. {U}nlike {B}a/{C}a, a significant relationship ({R}-2 = 0.94, p < 0.05) was found between otolith edge and water {S}r/{C}a, suggesting that this could be an efficient movement indicator for {P}. lineatus. {T}he {S}r/{C}a ratio complemented the information provided by {S}r isotopes and it was particularly useful in the northwest basin, where the isotopes alone do not allow differentiating between large rivers.}, keywords = {{C}alcified structure ; {F}reshwater fish ; {G}eomarkers ; {M}igration indicators ; {N}atural tag ; {LA} {PLATA} {BASSIN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}nvironmental {B}iology of {F}ishes}, volume = {104}, numero = {3}, pages = {277--292 [+ {C}orrection, 2023, 106, 1493]}, ISSN = {0378-1909}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1007/s10641-021-01074-y}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081070}, }
