@article{fdi:010081002, title = {{M}olecular characterization and genetic diversity of haplogroup {E} human lice in {G}uinea, {W}est {A}frica}, author = {{H}ammoud, {A}. and {L}ouni, {M}. and {B}alde, {M}. {C}. and {B}eavogui, {A}. {H}. and {G}autret, {P}. and {R}aoult, {D}. and {F}enollar, {F}. and {M}iss{\'e}, {D}oroth{\'e}e and {M}ediannikov, {O}leg}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{P}ediculus humanus capitis, the head louse, is an obligate blood-sucking ectoparasite that occurs in six divergent mitochondrial clades ({A}, {D}, {B}, {F}, {C} and {E}). {S}everal studies reported the presence of different pathogenic agents in head lice specimens collected worldwide. {T}hese findings suggest that head louse could be a dangerous vector and a serious public health problem. {H}erein, we aimed to study the mitochondrial genetic diversity, the {PHUM}540560 gene polymorphisms profile of head lice collected in {G}uinea, as well as to screen for their associated pathogens. {I}n 2018, a total of 155 head lice were collected from 49 individuals at the {M}edicals {C}enters of rural ({M}aferinyah village) and urban ({K}india city) areas, in {G}uinea. {S}pecimens were subjected to a genetic analysis and pathogens screening using molecular tools. {R}esults showed that all head lice belonged to eight haplotypes in the {E} haplogroup, with six newly identified for the first time. {T}he study of the {PHUM}540560 gene polymorphisms of our clade {E}-head lice revealed that 82.5% exhibited the same polymorphism profile as the previously reported clade {A}-body lice. {S}creening for targeted pathogens revealed the presence of {A}cinetobacter spp., while sequencing highlighted the presence of several species, including {A}cinetobacter baumannii, {A}cinetobacter nosocomialis, {A}cinetobacter variabilis, {A}cinetobacter towneri and for the first time {A}cinetobacter haemolyticus. {O}ur study is the first to report the existence of the {G}uinean haplogroup {E}, the {PHUM}540560 gene polymorphism profile as well as the presence of {A}cinetobacter species in head lice collected from {G}uinea.}, keywords = {head lice ; haplogroup {E} ; {PHUM}540560 gene ; {A}cinetobacter haemolyticus ; {A}cinetobacter spp ; {G}uinea ; {GUINEE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}icroorganisms}, volume = {9}, numero = {2}, pages = {257 [16p.]}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.3390/microorganisms9020257}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010081002}, }
