  abstract = {{T}he {G}rand {M}agal is a religious pilgrimage that takes place in {S}enegal. {A}n estimated 4-5 million individuals yearly gather in the holy city of {T}ouba. {P}ilgrims comes from the whole {S}enegal and surrounding countries and from countries outside of {A}frica where {M}ouride {S}enegalese emigrated. {I}t is the largest {M}ass {G}athering ({MG}) event of the {M}ouride community and the largest {M}uslim religious {MG} in {W}est {A}frica. {T}he context of the {G}rand {M}agal {MG} is unique given its location in a tropical developing country and its international component which may favour the globalization of local endemic diseases and warrants investment in modern methods for public health surveillance and planning of the event.},
