@article{fdi:010080169, title = {{I}mpact of a conservation agriculture system on soil characteristics, rice yield, and root-parasitic nematodes in a {C}ambodian lowland rice field}, author = {{S}ong, {M}. and {C}hapuis, {E}lodie and {L}eng, {V}. and {T}ivet, {F}. and {D}e {W}aele, {D}. and {H}u{\^e} {N}guy{\^e}n {T}hi and {B}ellafiore, {S}t{\'e}phane}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}ice production in {S}outheast {A}sia is significantly affected by root-parasitic nematodes ({RPN}). {T}he {G}reen {R}evolution has encouraged new agricultural practices (e.g. intensive monoculture, high yielding rice variety) to respond to the high rice demand; however, these methods have promoted the spread of these pests. {T}he recent banning of chemical nematicides resulted in a need for alternative sustainable control strategies. {I}n the present study, we assessed the effects of a direct-seeding mulch-based cropping system ({DMC}) vs conventional plough-based tillages ({CT}) on soil properties, rice yield and {RPN} communities during a two-year trial in {C}ambodia. {O}ur results show that on average the population densities of {RPN} were significantly higher in {DMC} than in {CT}. {M}olecular identification revealed only two {RPN} species associated with roots: {M}eloidogyne graminicola, not previously reported from {C}ambodia, was predominant and was present throughout the plant’s development, whereas {H}irschmanniella mucronata was only found at the tillering and milky stages. {W}e conclude that {DMC} had a significant positive impact on rice yield, despite higher {RPN} short-term pressure. {I}n order to increase the efficiency of such cropping systems, further studies and an evaluation of the long-term relationships between {DMC}, the nature of cover crops used, the soil biota including {RPN}, and rice yield should be conducted.}, keywords = {{CAMBODGE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {N}ematology}, volume = {51}, numero = {}, pages = {e2019--85 [15 ]}, ISSN = {0022-300{X}}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.21307/jofnem-2019-085}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010080169}, }
