@article{fdi:010079988, title = {{R}eaching a different population of {MSM} in {W}est {A}frica with the integration of {P}r{EP} into a comprehensive prevention package ({C}oh{MSM}-{P}r{EP} {ANRS} 12369-{E}xpertise {F}rance)}, author = {{E}ubanks, {A}. and {K}eita, {B}. {D}. and {A}noma, {C}. and {D}ah, {T}. {T}. {E}. and {M}ensah, {E}. and {M}aradan, {G}. and {B}ourrelly, {M}. and {M}ora, {M}. and {R}iegel, {L}. and {C}astro, {D}. {R}. and {Y}aya, {I}ssifou and {S}pire, {B}. and {L}aurent, {C}hristian and {S}agaon {T}eyssier, {L}uis and {C}oh{MSM}-{P}r{EP} {S}tudy {G}roup}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground: {I}n {W}est {A}frica, few {HIV} services target men who have sex with men ({MSM}). {I}n 2015, the interventional cohort {C}oh{MSM} started offering a community-based prevention package for {MSM}. {P}articipants expressed interest in pre-exposure prophylaxis ({P}r{EP}) and their eligibility was demonstrated. {I}n 2017, {P}r{EP} was added to services already offered as part of a new program, {C}oh{MSM}-{P}r{EP}, which recruited {C}oh{MSM} participants and new participants. {W}e aimed to determine whether the introduction of {P}r{EP} as an additional prevention tool influenced the type of participant signing up for {C}oh{MSM}-{P}r{EP}. {M}ethods: {C}oh{MSM}-{P}r{EP} recruited {HIV}-negative {MSM} in community-based clinics in {M}ali, {C}ote d'{I}voire, {B}urkina {F}aso, and {T}ogo. {Q}uarterly follow-up included free clinical examinations, {P}r{EP}, {HIV}/sexually transmitted infection screening, peer education, condoms, and lubricants. {S}ociobehavioral data were collected every 3 months using face-to-face questionnaires. {O}ur outcome was participant type: new participants vs {C}oh{MSM} participants. {L}ogistic regression was performed to identify the factors associated with being a new participant. {R}esults: {O}f the 524 {MSM} included in {C}oh{MSM}-{P}r{EP}, 41% were new participants. {A}fter adjustment, multivariate analysis showed they were more socioeconomically disadvantaged with financial insecurity, social isolation-including isolation within the {MSM} community-and riskier sexual practices. {C}onclusion: {T}he introduction of {P}r{EP} as an additional prevention tool and the use of peer-based outreach services over time influenced the type of participant signing up for a community-based {HIV} prevention cohort in {W}est {A}frica. {A}dding these elements to existing interventions in {S}ub-{S}aharan {A}frica could be the key to reaching {MSM} marginalized from {HIV} prevention and care programs.}, keywords = {{MSM} ; {HIV} ; {P}r{EP} ; behavior ; community-based research ; {W}est {A}frica ; {AFRIQUE} {DE} {L}'{OUEST} ; {MALI} ; {COTE} {D}'{IVOIRE} ; {BURKINA} {FASO} ; {TOGO} ; {AFRIQUE} {SUBSAHARIENNE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{JAIDS} : {J}ournal of {A}cquired {I}mmune {D}eficiency {S}yndromes}, volume = {85}, numero = {3}, pages = {292--301}, ISSN = {1525-4135}, year = {2020}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010079988}, }
