@article{fdi:010079435, title = {{M}olecular identification and evaluation of {C}oxiella-like endosymbionts genetic diversity carried by cattle ticks in {A}lgeria}, author = {{R}ahal, {M}. and {M}edkour, {H}. and {D}iarra, {A}. {Z}. and {B}itam, {I}. and {P}arola, {P}. and {M}ediannikov, {O}leg}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}oxiella-like bacteria are a large group of yet-to-isolate and characterize bacteria phylogenetically close to the agent of {Q} fever, {C}oxiella burnetii, and often associated with ixodid ticks worldwide. {T}his study was designed to assess the presence of {C}oxiella-like endosymbionts ({CLE}) in ticks and to describe their genetic diversity in different tick species infesting cattle in {A}lgeria. {A} total of 765 ticks were collected from three locations. {T}he screening of 20 % of sampled ticks (147/765) exhibited the presence of {C}oxiella-like in 51.7 % (76/147). {T}he sequencing of partial 16{S} r{RNA} and the {G}ro{E}l genes showed an identity higher than 98 % with different {C}oxiella-like endosymbionts. {T}he phylogenetic analysis based on the 16{S} r{RNA} gene showed the positions of identified {C}oxiella bacteria. {E}leven of the 13 sequences from {R}hipicephalus, {D}ermacentor and {H}yalomma ticks were grouped in a distinct {G}lade, the other two each represent an independent {G}lade. {T}his study reported that {CLE} are prevalent in cattle ticks. {M}ost of the identified {C}oxiella-like bacteria, from different species of ticks found on cattle, were identical. {T}his may mean that, unlike the currently accepted paradigm, {C}oxiella-like bacteria are not only tick host-associated, but rather can be transmitted from one tick species to another via the vertebrate host.}, keywords = {{C}oxiella-like ; {T}icks ; {C}attle ; q{PCR} ; {S}equencing ; {A}lgeria ; {ALGERIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}icks and {T}ick-{B}orne {D}iseases}, volume = {11}, numero = {5}, pages = {101493 [8 ]}, ISSN = {1877-959{X}}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1016/j.ttbdis.2020.101493}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010079435}, }
