@article{fdi:010078977, title = {{S}ource and deposition age of the {D}iale-{D}alema metasedimentary series ({K}edougou-{K}enieba {I}nlier, {S}enegal) constrained by {U}-{P}b geochronology on detrital zircon grains}, author = {{K}one, {J}. and {V}anderhaeghe, {O}. and {D}iatta, {F}. and {B}aratoux, {L}enka and {T}hebaud, {N}. and {B}ruguier, {O}. and {N}diaye, {P}. {M}. and {D}uchene, {S}. and {P}itra, {P}. and {G}anne, {J}{\'e}r{\^o}me}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he {D}iale-{D}alema metasedimentary series is exposed in the {K}edougou-{K}enieba {I}nlier that corresponds to the northwestern branch of the {E}burnean orogenic belt in the southern {W}est {A}frican {C}raton. {H}ere we conducted a {U}-{P}b geochronological study on metapelites, metagraywackes and metavolcanic breccia of the {D}iale-{D}alema metasedimentary series in order to identify the sedimentary sources and establish the lithostratigraphic sequence of the {K}edougou-{K}enieba {I}nlier. {T}his new {U}-{P}b geochronological dataset from five samples representing different stratigraphic levels yields a dominant population of {P}aleoproterozoic detrital zircon grains with ages ranging from c. 2200 to 2100 {M}a. {T}he youngest weighted mean ages at c. 2120 {M}a are identical for all five samples within error and provide a maximum deposition age for the sediments of the {D}iale-{D}alema series. {T}he dominant ages are similar to those obtained on metamorphosed plutonic and volcanic rocks of the {M}ako belt and thus suggest a dominant proximal source for the clastic sediments of the {D}iale-{D}alema series and a distal or geographically isolated position relative to the {A}rchean {L}eo-{M}an or {R}eguibat craton nuclei. {D}eposition ages are only a few {M}yr older than available ages for metamorphism and intrusion of plutons forming the {S}araya batholith. {T}his is consistent with deposition along an active convergence zone marked by the succession, within a few tens of {M}yr, of (1) magmatic accretion of the {M}ako plutonic and volcanic rocks in the context of volcanic arc, associated with local uplift, exhumation and erosion at c. 2200-2160 {M}a, (2) deposition of clastic sediments forming the {D}iale-{D}alema series at c. 2120-2110 {M}a followed by (3) their burial and exhumation at c. 2090-2060 partially contemporaneous with (4) the intrusion of the {S}araya batholith at c. 2080-2070 {M}a.}, keywords = {{SENEGAL} ; {KEDOUGOU} {KENIEBA} {REGION}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {A}frican {E}arth {S}ciences}, volume = {165}, numero = {}, pages = {103801 [20 ]}, ISSN = {1464-343{X}}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jafrearsci.2020.103801}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010078977}, }
