  abstract = {{M}artius described the genus {A}rariba, with two species, {A}. rubra and {A}. alba from material collected in the {B}razilian state of {R}io de {J}aneiro, which are here lectotypified. {T}welve years later, {A}llemao and {S}aldanha described {P}inckneya rubescens and {P}. viridiflora, also from material collected in {R}io de {J}aneiro; the holotypes of these two {P}inckneya names have recently been found in the {H}erbarium of the {N}ational {M}useum of {R}io de {J}aneiro. {A}fter comparative studies of their types and recent collections, we concluded that these taxa are synonymous with {S}imira alba ({M}art.) comb. nov. and {S}imira rubra. {C}omments on typification and critical historical collections of all taxa involved are also provided.},
