  abstract = {{T}he identification of a previously unknown early archaeological culture in the {U}pper {A}mazon frontier zone between southeastern {E}cuador and northeastern {P}eru has shown evidence of early complexity that suggests that the tropical forest groups were actively participating in the initial process that characterized the {F}ormative period in the {A}mericas ({O}livera {N}unez 2014; {V}aldez 2008, 2013; {V}aldez et al. 2005). {T}he material remains of this new culture have been identified throughout the {M}ayo {C}hinchipe hydraulic drainage basin, which flows down the eastern flanks of the {A}ndes to its confluence with an important tributary of the {A}mazon, the {M}aranon {R}iver. {T}hus the newly discovered culture has been given the same name as the basin : {M}ayo {C}hinchipe- {M}aranon.},
