@article{fdi:010078365, title = {{A} new case of neotropical monodominant forest : {S}pirotropis longifolia ({L}eguminosae-{P}apilionoideae) in {F}rench {G}uiana}, author = {{F}onty, {E}. and {M}olino, {J}ean-{F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {P}r{\'e}vost, {M}arie-{F}ran{\c{c}}oise and {S}abatier, {D}aniel}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he main interest in studying monodominant forests in the tropics (i.e. single-dominant forest sensu {R}ichards 1996 and {C}onnell & {L}owman 1989) is that processes leading to monodominance may highlight mechanisms controlling species diversity ({H}art et al. 1989). {A}mong the various cases of monodominant forest ({H}art 1990), the most intriguing are the rare ones that stand in contact with a considerably more diverse forest, without apparent environmental boundaries, and for many generations (i.e. type {I} sensu {C}onnell & {L}owman 1989). {R}ather than a single mechanism, it is likely that this type of monodominance results from a suite of interacting traits ({T}orti et al. 2001). {T}his has been well illustrated for the neotropical tree {D}icymbe corymbosa whose monodominance relies on: (1) ectomycorrhizal symbiosis ({H}enkel et al. 2002) linked to (2) mast fruiting ({H}enkel et al. 2005), (3) high seedling survival rate ({H}enkel et al. 2005, {M}c{G}uire 2007a, 2007b) and, potentially, (4) slow litter decomposition ({M}ayor & {H}enkel 2006, {M}c{G}uire et al. 2010), moreover, (5) the reiterative habit of {D}. corymbosa slows the gap dynamics, and reduces species richness ({W}oolley et al. 2008). {T}hus, a comprehensive understanding of monodominance may only emerge from the comparison of many case studies to point out shared mechanisms. {H}ere, we report a new case of a monodominant species: {S}pirotropis longifolia ({DC}.) {B}aill.}, keywords = {{F}rench {G}uiana ; layering ; monodominance ; sprouting ; supporting strategy ; suppressive strategy ; tropical rain forests}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {T}ropical {E}cology}, volume = {27}, numero = {{P}art 6}, pages = {641--644}, ISSN = {0266-4674}, year = {2011}, DOI = {10.1017/s0266467411000356}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010078365}, }
