@inproceedings{fdi:010078248, title = {{C}ontribution of mathematical modeling to the ecosystem approach to fisheries management and the marine environment ({EAMME}) : the {AWA} experience [r{\'e}sum{\'e}]}, author = {{B}rochier, {T}imoth{\'e}e and {A}uger, {P}ierre-{A}ma{\¨e}l and {E}strade, {P}. and {B}a, {A}liou and {K}on{\'e}, {V}. and {M}baye, {B}.{C}. and {N}doye, {S}. and {T}hiaw, {M}. and {T}rong, {H}.{N}. and {M}chich, {R}. and {A}uger, {P}ierre and {B}ah, {A}. and {T}hiaw, {D}. and {M}achu, {E}ric and {C}apet, {X}avier and {P}ecquerie, {L}aure and {L}ett, {C}hristophe and {G}orgues, {T}homas and {B}rehmer, {P}atrice}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}ince the onset of {AWA}, a number of studies have focused on the management and ecology in {W}est {A}frica. {H}ere we provide a short insight of the main highlights on a selection of contrasted modelling case studies. {U}nderstanding the functioning of the ecosystem is essential to promote ecosystem approach to fisheries management and the marine environment ({EAMME}) and path providing advices to decision makers and managers. {I}n the {EAMME}, the civil society addressed various questions to {AWA} on which specific models have been developed to provide at least first insight to the answers, e.g., on the effect of artificial reef implementation in marine protected area; the possible equilibriums between national fisheries sharing a same trans-boundary fish stock; the feedback between local exploitation, fish market and fisheries mobility, the responses of a fishery to economic, biologic and management parameters, the spatial variability of primary productivity as well oceanographic circulation at regional level or the fish egg advection over the continental shelf. {M}ore complex modelling exercise have also been conducted taking advantage of previous research led on sardinella aurita. {I}n this way a coupled model taking into account environmental variability, fish growth and spatial behaviour was developed. {W}e present as example new hypothesis on adult mediated connectivity between {EEZ}, inter-annual variability and interest to work on climate change with such model. {W}e propose a prospective of what further research could be conducted to continue to bring up relevant information for a sub-regional {EAMME} in {N}orth {W}est {A}frica fostering exchanges between modellers and marine scientists and all stakeholders.}, keywords = {{AFRIQUE} {DE} {L}'{OUEST} ; {ATLANTIQUE}}, numero = {}, pages = {39--40}, booktitle = {{I}nternational conference {ICAWA} 2017 and 2018 : extended book of abstract : the {AWA} project : ecosystem approach to the management of fisheries and the marine environment in {W}est {A}frican waters}, year = {2019}, ISBN = {978-9553602-0-06}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010078248}, }
