@article{fdi:010078035, title = {{A}ge-appropriate feeding practices in {C}ambodia and the possible influence on the growth of the children : a longitudinal study}, author = {{H}ondru, {G}. and {L}aillou, {A}. and {W}ieringa, {F}ranck and {P}oirot, {E}. and {B}erger, {J}acques and {C}hristensen, {D}. {L}. and {R}oos, {N}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}ge-appropriate feeding practice ({ADF}) during early childhood are vital for optimal nutrition. {T}his longitudinal study determined the effect of selected risk factors and {ADF}, as described by the {N}ational {N}utritional {R}ecommendations, on linear and ponderal growth of children below 24 months of age. {W}eight and length measures were used to calculate z-scores of anthropometric measures by {WHO} standards. {T}he prevalence of stunting increased from 13.2% to 32.4% over time, while prevalence of wasting remained stable (14.5%). {A}t first visit, 43% of children of all ages complied with {ADF} criteria, a proportion which decreased to 7.1% in follow-up. {T}he quality of feeding practices for children above 12 months of age was the poorest, where at the last visit, only 6% complied with the criteria for {ADF}. {T}he linear mixed-effect models found the association between {ADF} and ponderal growth to be significant (weight-for-height estimate: 0.05 {SD}). {I}n {C}ambodia, {R}atanakiri province, {ADF} was the second largest determinant for ponderal growth. {W}e recommend province specific public health actions. {F}or children above 6 months, the quantity of food given needs to be increased, followed by the meal frequency. {M}others' educational level, improved sanitation, and drinking water quality were among strongest predictors of a child's growth.}, keywords = {feeding practices ; nutritional status ; child's growth ; wasting ; stunting ; {C}ambodia ; longitudinal study ; {CAMBODGE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{N}utrients}, volume = {12}, numero = {1}, pages = {art. 12 [14 p.]}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.3390/nu12010012}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010078035}, }
