@article{fdi:010078020, title = {{A} 10,000-year record of trace metal and metalloid ({C}u, {H}g, {S}b, {P}b) deposition in a western {A}lpine lake ({L}ake {R}obert, {F}rance) : deciphering local and regional mining contamination}, author = {{E}lbaz-{P}oulichet, {F}. and {G}u{\'e}dron, {S}t{\'e}phane and {A}nne-{L}ise, {D}. and {F}reydier, {R}. and {P}errot, {V}. and {R}ossi, {M}. and {P}iot, {C}. and {D}elpoux, {S}. and {S}abatier, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}oncentrations of trace metals and metalloids ({C}u, {H}g, {S}b, {P}b), major elements, stable {P}b and {C} isotope ratios, total organic carbon ({TOC}), {C}/{N} atomic ratios, were analyzed in two sediment cores encompassing 10,000 years of sedimentation sampled in {L}ake {R}obert ({F}rench {A}lps). {T}he results showed that the establishment of a soil cover and vegetation during the {H}olocene climatic optimum increased {C}u and {H}g deposition in sediments. {R}esults also enabled reconstruction of the history and local vs regional origins of pollution. {D}uring the {B}ronze {A}ge (1800-1000 {BC}), {C}u mining activities increased {H}g and {S}b accumulation rates ({AR}) by a factor of 7 ({H}g) and 9 ({S}b) compared to pre-{B}ronze {A}ge values. {T}he rise in {H}g {AR} was equivalent to that of the industrial era highlighting a major local {H}g point source not recorded in regional archives. {D}uring the {I}ron {A}ge, {P}b pollution was attributed to {S}icilian ores whereas during the {R}oman {E}mpire {P}b pollution had the isotopic signature of {S}panish {P}b ores. {D}uring the {M}edieval period (ca. {AD} 1200), {P}b and {H}g pollution was due to the exploitation of the local {A}g-{P}b mines. {F}inally, during the industrial era, metal accumulations rates were 90 ({P}b), 5 ({H}g) and 20 ({S}b) times higher than those in the pre-{B}ronze {A}ge. {T}he isotopic composition of {P}b reflected mixed sources including industrial {P}b and gasoline {P}b. {S}ynchronously, the increase in {S}b and {H}g pollution is attributed to global and regional atmospheric pollution.}, keywords = {{M}ercury ; {A}ntimony ; {L}ead isotopes ; {C}opper ; {A}lpine lake ; {H}olocene sediment record ; {B}ronze age pollution ; {FRANCE} ; {ALPES} ; {ROBERT} {LAC}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{Q}uaternary {S}cience {R}eviews}, volume = {228}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 106076 [14 p.]}, ISSN = {0277-3791}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1016/j.quascirev.2019.106076}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010078020}, }
