@article{fdi:010077967, title = {{C}haracterization of {ESBL}-producing enterobacteria from fruit bats in an unprotected area of {M}akokou, {G}abon [+ {C}orrection in : {M}icroorganisms, 2020, vol.8, no 9, art. 1384]}, author = {{N}guema, {P}. {P}. {M}. and {O}nanga, {R}. and {A}tome, {G}. {R}. {N}. and {M}beang, {J}. {C}. {O}. and {M}abika, {A}. {M}. and {Y}aro, {M}. and {L}ounnas, {M}anon and {D}umont, {Y}. and {Z}ohra, {Z}. {F}. and {G}odreuil, {S}. and {B}retagnolle, {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n {G}abon, terrestrial mammals of protected areas have been identified as a possible source of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. {S}ome studies on antibiotic resistance in bats have already been carried out. {T}he main goal of our study was to detect extended-spectrum beta-lactamases ({ESBL}s) that are produced by enterobacteria from bats in the {M}akokou region in {G}abon. {S}ixty-eight fecal samples were obtained from 68 bats caught in the forests located 1 km from the little town of {M}akokou. {A}fter culture and isolation, 66 {G}ram-negative bacterial colonies were obtained. {T}he double-disk diffusion test confirmed the presence of {ESBL}s in six (20.69%) {E}scherichia coli isolates, four (13.79%) {K}lebsiella pneumoniae isolates, and one (3.45%) {E}nterobacter cloacae isolate. {T}he analysis based on the nucleotide sequences of the {ESBL} resistance genes showed that all cefotaximase-{M}unichs ({CTX}-{M}s) were {CTX}-{M}-15 and that all sulfhydryl variables ({SHV}s) were {SHV}-11: 41.67% {CTX}-{M}-15-producing {E}. coli, 16.67% {CTX}-{M}-15+{SHV}-11-producing {E}. coli, 8.33% {CTX}-{M}-15-producing {K}. pneumoniae, 25% {CTX}-{M}-15+{SHV}-11-producing {K}. pneumoniae, and 8.33% {CTX}-{M}-15-produced {E}. cloacae. {T}his study shows for the first time the presence of multiresistant {ESBL}-producing enterobacteria in fruit bats in {M}akokou.}, keywords = {bats ; {G}ram-negative bacteria ; {ESBL} ; multiresistance ; reservoir ; {GABON} ; {MAKOKOU}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}icroorganisms}, volume = {8}, numero = {1}, pages = {art. 138 [15 + {C}orrection in : {M}icroorganisms, 2020, vol.8, no 9, art. 1384]}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.3390/microorganisms8010138}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077967}, }
