@article{fdi:010077897, title = {{G}enetic data support speciation between {P}anstrongylus howardi and {P}anstrongylus chinai, vectors of {C}hagas disease in {E}cuador}, author = {{B}arnab{\'e}, {C}hristian and {G}rijalva, {M}. {J}. and {S}antillan-{G}uayasamin, {S}. and {Y}umiseva, {C}. {A}. and {W}aleckx, {E}tienne and {B}reni{\`e}re, {S}imone {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}rique and {V}illacis, {A}. {G}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{L}imited genetic data are currently available for three vectors of {C}hagas disease in {E}cuador, {P}anstrongylus howardi, {P}. chinai, and {P}. rufotuberculatus. {P}reviously regarded as mainly sylvatic, these species have been poorly studied. {R}ecently, they have been more frequently reported in domiciles and peridomiciles and are now considered true secondary vectors of {C}hagas disease in a country where an estimated 200,000 people are infected by {T}rypanosoma cruzi, a causative agent of this disease. {I}n order to fill this gap, we obtained {DNA} for sequencing from 53 insects belonging to these three species and mainly sampled from the two {E}cuadorian provinces of {L}oja and {M}anabi. {W}e used six mitochondrial loci ({COI}, {COII}, {ND}4, {C}yt{B}, 16{S}, and 12{S}) and two nuclear ones ({ITS}2 and 18{S}). {W}e interpreted the phylogenetic trees built with single and concatenated data through maximum likelihood, {B}ayesian {M}arkov chain {M}onte {C}arlo, and maximum parsimony methods. {W}e provide evidence that {P}. chinai and {P}. howardi are indeed two supported species closely related and derived from a common ancestor. {A}dditionally, the phylogenetic position of {P}. rufotuberculatus was confirmed as being distant from {P}. chinai and {P}. howardi and clustered with {T}riatoma dimidiata, a species belonging to the {N}orthern {A}merican {T}riatoma clade.}, keywords = {{EQUATEUR}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nfection {G}enetics and {E}volution}, volume = {78}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 104103 [6 p.]}, ISSN = {1567-1348}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1016/j.meegid.2019.104103}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077897}, }
