@article{fdi:010077869, title = {{P}etrological and geochemical study of {B}irimian ultramafic rocks within the {W}est {A}frican {C}raton : insights from {M}ako ({S}enegal) and {L}oraboue ({B}urkina {F}aso) lherzolite/harzburgite/wehrlite associations}, author = {{L}abou, {I}. and {B}enoit, {M}. and {B}aratoux, {L}enka and {G}regoire, {M}. and {N}diaye, {P}. {M}. and {T}hebaud, {N}. and {B}eziat, {D}. and {D}ebat, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n {A}rchean and {P}aleoproterozoic greenstone belts, ultramafic ({UM}) rock occurrences are commonly found in close association within basic and differentiated magmatic series. {I}n the {K}edougou-{K}enieba {I}nlier ({W}est {A}frican {C}raton), {UM} rocks are interbedded within the {B}irimian (2.1 {G}a) {M}ako tholeiitic series (basalts, gabbros). {UM}s are typically lherzolite, harzburgite and wehrlite, characterized by their cumulative textures and relative pro-portions of chromite, olivine, clinopyroxene, amphibole +/- orthopyroxene. {G}eochemical study ({M}ajor, {REE} and trace elements in whole rocks and mineral (mainly clinopyroxene and amphibole) and {S}r/{N}d isotopic records suggest the existence of different types of complexes. {T}he first one consists of lherzolite + harzburgite assemblages whereas the second one consists of isolated wehrlite massifs. {B}oth complexes highlight two different geodynamic environments, the first association being significantly more juvenile or mantle-related than isolated wehrlites which show more evolved geochemical signatures. {UM} rocks (dunite + wehrlite) of {L}oraboue (greenstone belt of {B}oromo, {B}urkina {F}aso) associated with calcalkaline series display the same mineralogical composition as the {M}ako {UM} rocks but exhibit a different whole rock composition characteristic of mature island-arc magmas and showing {U}-shaped {REE} pattern for both clinopyroxene and host rock, and a clear negative {N}b anomaly. {T}he {M}ako {UM}s suggest that this portion of the {B}irimian crust was built in an oceanic context evolving from a {MORB}-like domain to an increasingly mature volcanic arc domain.}, keywords = {{U}ltramafic rocks ; {W}est {A}frican {C}raton ; {B}irimian ; {G}eochemistry ; {S}r-{N}d isotopes ; {P}aleotectonic setting ; {SENEGAL} ; {BURKINA} {FASO} ; {MAKO} ; {LORABOUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {A}frican {E}arth {S}ciences}, volume = {162}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 103677 [29 p.]}, ISSN = {1464-343{X}}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jafrearsci.2019.103677}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077869}, }
