@article{fdi:010077793, title = {{C}omputer-based tailored dietary counselling improves the nutrient adequacy of the diet of {F}rench pregnant women : a randomised controlled trial}, author = {{B}ianchi, {C}. {M}. and {M}ariotti, {F}. and {L}luch, {A}. and {J}ournet, {C}. and {S}tehr, {Y}. and {B}eaussier, {H}. and {F}ournier, {J}. and {D}ervaux, {S}. and {C}ohen-{T}anuggi, {D}. and {R}eulet, {E}. and {V}erger, {E}ric and {A}zria, {E}. and {H}uneau, {J}. {F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{D}uring pregnancy, mothers-to-be should adapt their diet to meet increases in nutrient requirements. {P}regnant women appear to be keener to adopt healthier diets, but are not always successful. {T}he objective of the present study was to determine whether a guided, stepwise and tailored dietary counselling programme, designed using an optimisation algorithm, could improve the nutrient adequacy of the diet of pregnant women, beyond generic guidelines. {P}regnant women (n 80) who attended {N}otre-{D}ame-de-{B}on-{S}ecours {M}aternity {C}linic were randomly allocated to the control or intervention arm. {D}ietary data were obtained twice from an online 3-d dietary record. {T}he nutrient adequacy of the diet was calculated using the {PAND}iet score, a 100-point diet quality index adapted to the specific nutrient requirements for pregnancy. {W}omen were supplied with generic dietary guidelines in a reference booklet. {I}n the intervention arm, they also received nine sets of tailored dietary advice identified by an optimisation algorithm as best improving their {PAND}iet score. {P}regnant women (n 78) completed the 12-week dietary follow-up. {I}nitial {PAND}iet scores were similar in the control and intervention arms (60 center dot 4 (sd 7 center dot 3) v. 60 center dot 3 (sd 7 center dot 3), {P} = 0 center dot 92). {T}he {PAND}iet score increased in the intervention arm (+3 center dot 6 (sd 9 center dot 3), {P} = 0 center dot 02) but not in the control arm (-0 center dot 3 (sd 7 center dot 3), {P} = 0 center dot 77), and these changes differed between arms ({P} = 0 center dot 04). {I}n the intervention arm, there were improvements in the probabilities of adequacy for alpha-linolenic acid, thiamin, folate and cholesterol intakes ({P} < 0 center dot 05). {T}ailored dietary counselling using a computer-based algorithm is more effective than generic dietary counselling alone in improving the nutrient adequacy of the diet of {F}rench women in mid-pregnancy.}, keywords = {{T}ailored dietary advice ; {D}ietary counselling ; {P}regnancy ; {N}utrient adequacy ; {B}ehaviour change techniques ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}ritish {J}ournal of {N}utrition}, volume = {123}, numero = {2}, pages = {220--231}, ISSN = {0007-1145}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1017/s0007114519002617}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077793}, }
