  abstract = {{P}urpose of review {M}icronutrient deficiencies are highly prevalent worldwide, including in {S}outh-{E}ast {A}sia, and have a profound impact on public health. {M}ost efforts towards eliminating micronutrient deficiencies have focused on vitamin {A}, iron, and iodine deficiency. {B}ut deficiency of other micronutrients also affect public health. {T}he purpose of the present review is to provide an overview of micronutrient deficiency prevalence in {S}outh-{E}ast {A}sia and potential public health impact. {R}ecent findings {R}epresentative and up-to-date data on micronutrient status in {S}outh-{E}ast {A}sia is limited. {A}lthough anemia is still prevalent in {S}outh-{E}ast {A}sia, iron deficiency appears not to be prevalent in {C}ambodia, and less prevalent than thought in {V}ietnam and {I}ndonesia. {E}stimates of prevalence of vitamin {A} deficiency range widely, but most recent data suggest a prevalence of deficiency in children less than 5 years of age less than 15% in most countries. {Z}inc deficiency is highly prevalent in the region (affecting >30% of subjects). {T}hiamine deficiency is highly prevalent in {C}ambodia, {L}aos, and {M}yanmar. {A} better coordination of efforts to reduce micronutrient deficiency, and a focus more inclusive for other micronutrients than iron, vitamin {A}, and iodine is urgently needed for {S}outh-{E}ast {A}sia.},
