@article{fdi:010077453, title = {{T}wo novel genomospecies in the {A}grobacterium tumefaciens species complex associated with rose crown gall}, author = {{M}afakheri, {H}. and {T}aghavi, {S}. {M}. and {P}ulawska, {J}. and {L}ajudie, {P}hilippe de and {L}assalle, {F}. and {O}sdaghi, {E}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n this study, we explored the pathogenicity and phylogenetic position of {A}grobacterium spp. strains isolated from crown gall tissues on annual, perennial, and ornamental plants in {I}ran. {O}f the 43 strains studied, 10 strains were identified as {A}llorhizobium vitis (formerly {A}grobacterium vitis) using the species-specific primer pair {PGF}/{PGR}. {T}hirty-three remaining strains were studied using multilocus sequence analysis of four housekeeping genes (i.e., atp{D}, gyr{B}, rec{A}, and rpo{B}), from which seven strains were identified as {A}. larrymoorei and one strain was identified as {A}. rubi ({R}er); the remaining 25 strains were scattered within the {A}. tumefaciens species complex. {T}wo strains were identified as genomospecies 1 ({G}1), seven strains were identified as {A}. radiobacter ({G}4), seven strains were identified as {A}. deltaense ({G}7), two strains were identified as {A}. nepotum ({G}14), and one strain was identified as "{A}. viscosum" ({G}15). {T}he strains {R}nr, {R}nw, and {R}ew as well as the two strains {OT}33 and {R}13 all isolated from rose and the strain {A}p1 isolated from apple were clustered in three atypical clades within the {A}. tumefaciens species complex. {A}ll but eight strains (i.e., {N}ec10, {P}h38, {P}h49, fic9, {F}ic72, {R}13, {OT}33, and {A}p1) were pathogenic on tomato and sunflower seedlings in greenhouse conditions, whereas all but three strains (i.e., fic9, {F}ic72, and {OT}33) showed tumorigenicity on carrot root discs. {T}he phylogenetic analysis and nucleotide diversity statistics suggested the existence of two novel genomospecies within the {A}. tumefaciens species complex, which we named "{G}19" and "{G}20." {H}ence, we propose the strains {R}ew, {R}nw, and {R}nr as the members of "{G}19" and the strains {R}13 and {OT}33 as the members of {G}20, whereas the phylogenetic status of the atypical strain {A}p1 remains undetermined.}, keywords = {agrobacteria ; etiology ; {MLSA} ; {R}hizobiaceae ; {R}hizobium radiobacter ; tumorigenesis}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}hytopathology}, volume = {109}, numero = {11}, pages = {1859--1868}, ISSN = {0031-949{X}}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1094/phyto-05-19-0178-r}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077453}, }
