@article{fdi:010077443, title = {{O}ccurrence of epibenthic dinoflagellates in relation to biotic substrates and to environmental factors in {S}outhern {M}editerranean ({B}izerte {B}ay and {L}agoon, {T}unisia) : an emphasis on the harmful {O}streopsis spp., {P}rorocentrum lima and {C}oolia monotis}, author = {{B}en {G}harbia, {H}. and {L}aabir, {M}ohamed and {B}en {M}hamed, {A}. and {G}ueroun, {S}. {K}. {M}. and {Y}ahia, {M}. {N}. {D}. and {N}ouri, {H}abiba and {M}'{R}abet, {C}. and {S}hili, {A}. and {Y}ahia, {O}. {K}. {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{H}armful events associated with epibenthic dinoflagellates, have been reported more frequently over the last decades. {O}ccurrence of potentially toxic benthic dinoflagellates, on the leaves of two magnoliophytes ({C}ymodocea nodosa and {Z}ostera noltei) and thalli of the macroalgae ({U}lva rigida), was monitored over one year ({F}rom {M}ay 2015 to {A}pril 2016) in the {B}izerte {B}ay and {L}agoon ({N}orth of {T}unisia, {S}outhern {M}editerranean {S}ea). {T}he investigated lagoon is known to be highly anthropized. {T}his is the first report on the seasonal distribution of epibenthic dinoflagellates hosted by natural substrates, from two contrasted, adjacent coastal {M}editerranean ecosystems. {T}he environmental factors promoting the development of the harmful epibenthic dinoflagellates {O}streopsis spp., {P}rorocentrum lima and {C}oolia monotis were investigated. {T}he highest cell densities were reached by {O}streopsis spp. (1.9 x 10(3) cells g(-1) {FW}, in {O}ctober 2015), {P}. lima (1.6 x 10(3) cells g(-1) {FW}, in {J}une 2015) and {C}. monotis (1.1 x 10(3) cells g(-1) {FW}, in {M}ay 2015). {C}. nodosa and {Z}. noltei were the most favorable host macrophytes for {C}. monotis (in station {L}2) and {O}streopsis spp. (in station {L}3), respectively. {P}ositive correlations were recorded between {O}streopsis spp. and temperature. {D}ensities of the epibenthic dinoflagellates varied according to the collection site, and a great disparity was observed between the {B}ay and the {L}agoon. {M}aximum concentrations were recorded on {C}. nodosa leaves from the {B}izerte {B}ay, while low epiphytic cell abundances were associated with macrophytes sampled from the {B}izerte {L}agoon. {T}he observed differences in dinoflagellate abundances between the two ecosystems ({B}ay-{L}agoon) seemed not related to the nutrients, but rather to the poor environmental conditions in the lagoon.}, keywords = {{E}pibenthic dinoflagellates ; {M}acrophytes ; {E}nvironmental factors ; {S}outhern {M}editerranean ; {TUNISIE} ; {MEDITERRANEE} ; {BIZERTE} {LAGON}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{H}armful {A}lgae}, volume = {90}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 101704 [16 p.]}, ISSN = {1568-9883}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1016/j.hal.2019.101704}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077443}, }
