  abstract = {{V}epris mbamensis {O}nana, sp. nov. with its swollen (pulvinate) petiolules is recognized as distinct from all other known species of {V}epris in {A}frica, after study of the {A}frican material of the genus. {T}he new species is described and typified. {T}he key to the cameroonian species of the genus {V}epris {C}omm. ex {A}.{J}uss. is updated to accommodate the new species. {T}he specimen on which the invalid name {D}iphasia mildbraedii {E}ngl. of the {C}entral {A}frican {R}epublic ({C}.{A}.{R}) was based is reproduced as an image and shown to be identical to {V}epris adamaouae {O}nana, sharing for example the unusual ramiflorous character state. {T}herefore the first name is made a synonym of the second and the range of {V}. adamaouae is extended to {CA}.{R}, {T}he identification of material collected in {N}igeria extends the range of {V}. adamaouae to the {W}est. {A} key to distinguish {C}ameroonian species with furrowed fruit is presented. {V}epris mbamensis {O}nana, sp. nov. and {V}. adamaouae are illustrated, and a distribution map of both species is presented.},
