@article{fdi:010077163, title = {{S}patial variability of the physical quality of soil from management zones}, author = {de {O}liveira, {J}. {F}. and {M}ayi, {S}. and {M}archao, {R}. {L}. and {C}orazza, {E}. {J}. and {H}urtado, {S}. {C}. and {M}alaquias, {J}. {V}. and {T}avares, {J}. and {B}rossard, {M}ichel and {G}uimaraes, {M}. {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he uniform management of soil, without considering the local soil spatial variability of its properties, may accelerate its degradation process. {T}he objectives of this study were to: (i) delineate homogeneous management zones ({HMZ}s) using the multivariate analysis approach, and (ii) evaluate the effect of uniform soil management on the physical-hydraulic attributes of these {HMZ}. {T}he study was carried out in two fields: field 1 ({F}1) of 312 ha and field 2 ({F}2) of 297 ha. {A}fter collection of soil samples (grid approach) and laboratory analyses, principal component and cluster analyses were applied to define the {HMZ} in each field. {A}fter a new visit to the fields to confirm the variation of {HMZ}, soil profile samples were collected for soil quality analysis. {T}he {HMZ} corresponded to soil spatial variability at the mineralogy level. {T}he {HMZ} were defined by the soil physical attributes bulk density ({B}d) and structural porosity in fields where soil spatial variability had greater homogeneity ({F}1), and by chemical attributes when it was more complex ({F}2). {C}onsidering uniform management, in {F}1, a marked reduction in structural porosity was observed in 46% of the 312 ha. {F}2 had an accentuated reduction in structural porosity of 26% and an increase in {B}d in the other 24% of the surface layer (0.00-0.30 m). {T}hese results confirm the hypothesis that uniform management can increase the soil degradation and potential erosion, and that dividing the field into {HMZ}s can result in a more adequate and sustainable soil management.}, keywords = {{N}o tillage ; {S}oil degradation ; {S}oil spatial variability}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{P}recision {A}griculture}, volume = {20}, numero = {6}, pages = {1251--1273}, ISSN = {1385-2256}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1007/s11119-019-09639-9}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077163}, }
