@article{fdi:010077106, title = {{P}otential of tropical macroalgae from {F}rench {P}olynesia for biotechnological applications}, author = {{Z}ubia, {M}. and {T}homas, {O}. {P}. and {S}oulet, {S}. and {D}emoy-{S}chneider, {M}. and {S}aulnier, {D}. and {C}onnan, {S}. and {M}urphy, {E}. {C}. and {T}intillier, {F}. and {S}tiger-{P}ouvreau, {V}. and {P}etek, {S}ylvain}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{E}xtracts from 26 marine macroalgal species (11 {P}haeophyceae, 7 {C}hlorophyta, and 8 {R}hodophyta) sampled from the lagoons of {T}ahiti, {M}oorea, and {T}ubuai ({F}rench {P}olynesia) were tested for several biological activities. {T}he red macroalga {A}mansia rhodantha exhibited the strongest antioxidant activities using four complementary methodologies (total phenolic content, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, ferric reducing antioxidant power assay, and oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay). {T}herefore, the major metabolites of {A}. rhodantha were isolated and their structures identified. {S}ome brown algae, especially species of the family {D}ictyotaceae like {P}adina boryana and {D}ictyota hamifera, showed cytotoxic activities against murine melanoma cells. {C}aulerpa chemnitzia extract demonstrated also a strong alpha-glucosidase inhibition (83.8% at 10 mu g m{L}(-1)) and {A}sparagopsis taxiformis extract a high acetylcholinesterase inhibition (71.3% at 100 mu g m{L}(-1)). {L}astly, several {P}olynesian seaweeds demonstrated quorum-sensing inhibition for {V}ibrio harveyi. {T}hese results suggested that some seaweeds from {F}rench {P}olynesia have a great biotechnological potential for future applications in aquaculture, health, or cosmetic industries.}, keywords = {{S}eaweeds ; {C}oral reefs ; {S}creening ; {B}ioactive compounds ; {A}mansia rhodantha ; {POLYNESIE} {FRANCAISE} ; {TAHITI} ; {MOOREA} ; {TUBUAI}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {A}pplied {P}hycology}, volume = {32}, numero = {4}, pages = {2343--2362}, ISSN = {0921-8971}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1007/s10811-019-01920-8}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077106}, }
