@article{fdi:010077101, title = {{O}ne hundred years later, resurrection of {T}ydemania gardineri {A}. {G}epp and {E}. {G}epp ({U}doteaceae, {C}hlorophyta) based on molecular and morphological data}, author = {{L}agourgue, {L}. and {V}erbruggen, {H}. and {A}mpou, {E}. {E}. and {P}ayri, {C}laude}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}ydemania {W}eber-van {B}osse is a genus belonging to the family {U}doteaceae ({B}ryopsidales, {C}hlorophyta) and currently thought to be monospecific throughout its distribution range in the {I}ndo-{P}acific. {W}e tested the assumption that {T}ydemania is a single species using species delimitation methods, morphological observations and phylogenetic reconstructions of large datasets. {O}ur molecular and morphological data recovered two distinct groups, which we argue are the type species {T}. expeditionis {W}eber-van {B}osse and {T}. gardineri {A}. {G}epp & {E}. {G}epp. {T}he latter is currently considered a synonym of the former and we resurrect this name from synonymy. {T}. gardineri is distinguished morphologically from {T}. expeditionis by the complete absence of glomeruli, whereas {T}. expeditionis can have glomeruli and flabella, glomeruli alone, or flabella alone. {T}he two species can also be distinguished by the shape and length of the stalks at the base of the flabellum, the diameter of the main axis and of the flabella siphons at the apices. {I}n addition, they have different geographic distributions, with {T}. gardineri restricted to the {W}estern {I}ndian {O}cean, and {T}. expeditionis extending from the {R}ed {S}ea, throughout the {I}ndian {O}cean and into the {W}est {P}acific, including the {C}oral {T}riangle, the {P}hilippines and {J}apan. {F}rom our dataset and literature search, we hypothesize that its south-western distribution limit is in northern {M}adagascar. {F}inally, we confirm the synonymization of {T}. mabahithae with {T}. expeditionis based on specimens from the type locality of the former and the lack of flabella in several other specimens of {T}. expeditionis.}, keywords = {{B}ryopsidales ; {I}ndo-{P}acific ; macroalgae ; molecular data ; morphology ; phylogeny ; species delimitation ; {OCEAN} {INDIEN} ; {PACIFIQUE} ; {MADAGASCAR} ; {MAYOTTE} ; {TANZANIE} ; {INDONESIE} ; {PAPOUASIE} {NOUVELLE} {GUINEE} ; {VANUATU} ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE} ; {FIDJI} ; {MER} {ROUGE} ; {SALOMON} {ILES} ; {GEYSE} {BANC}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}uropean {J}ournal of {P}hycology}, volume = {55}, numero = {1}, pages = {89--99}, ISSN = {0967-0262}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1080/09670262.2019.1654618}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077101}, }
