@article{fdi:010077035, title = {{A}dapting light trap to catch household insects in central {C}ameroon : a pilot study}, author = {{N}dengue, {J}. {D}. and {T}exier, {G}. and {L}andier, {J}ordi and {D}e {G}avelle, {E}. and {M}archi, {J}. and {K}amgang, {L}. {R}. and {K}enne, {M}. and {T}indo, {M}. and {E}yangoh, {S}. and {L}e {G}all, {P}hilippe}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{V}arious trapping methods and techniques developed for entomological studies are inefficient in attracting all arthropod groups. {A} new simple light trap, the basin light trap ({BLT}), to collect arthropod fauna around household in central {C}ameroon was thus designed. {I}ts performance is evaluated by comparing collected data with those obtained by the {C}entre for {D}isease {C}ontrol light trap ({CDC}) commonly used in mosquito studies. {BLT} were activated between 6 and 10 pm and {CDC} between 5 pm and 8 am. {A} total of 36,804 arthropods specimens were collected and sorted into 115 families within 20 orders and three phyla ({M}yriapoda, {A}rachnida and {H}exapoda). {BLT} attracted more individuals (22,250 vs 14,554), families (106 vs 65) and significantly more families per night (33.0 +/- 15.9 vs 21.0 +/- 8.5) than {CDC}. {S}ome families were collected by only one specific trap type while others overlapped between the two traps. {P}rosopistomatidae ({E}phemeroptera) was the most abundant family collected by {BLT}. {I}n contrast, {C}ecidomyiidae ({D}iptera) was the most abundant taxon trapped by {CDC}. {T}hese results indicate that collecting methods such as {BLT} complement available trapping methods in evaluating arthropod fauna in and around households.}, keywords = {arthropods ; basin light trap ; biodiversity ; {CDC} light trap ; lamp {LED} ; outdoor biomes ; {CAMEROUN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}nnales de la {S}oci{\'e}t{\'e} {E}ntomologique de {F}rance}, volume = {55}, numero = {5}, pages = {383--394}, ISSN = {0037-9271}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1080/00379271.2019.1652684}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010077035}, }
