@article{fdi:010076878, title = {{A}coustic survey of an estuarine marine protected area and of its close vicinity : analysis and monitoring prospective}, author = {{B}ehagle, {N}olwenn and {G}uillard, {J}. and {E}coutin, {J}ean-{M}arc and {L}a{\¨e}, {R}aymond and {S}ow, {I}. and {T}ito de {M}orais, {L}ouis and {L}ebourges {D}haussy, {A}nne}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{F}acing the loss of fish biodiversity and the decrease of fish stocks since several decades, a proposed solution is the multiplication of {M}arine {P}rotected {A}reas ({MPA}). {I}n {S}enegal, one {MPA} has been implemented in 2003 in one of the channels composing the {S}ine {S}aloum estuary. {A} monitoring program was carried out based on hydro-acoustic survey and the two main metrics extracted from hydro-acoustic data: {F}ish biomass proxy and fish size distribution proxy. {T}he surveys were performed using vertical beaming at different seasons from 2003 to 2010. {I}n the {MPA}, a light increase of the fish biomass proxy and an increase of the fish size proxy during the dry season were observed. {T}he biomass proxy recorded in a close but not protected tributary were higher than in the {MPA}, probably due to a strong connection with open marine water, aggregative behavior of preys in the {MPA} due to higher predation, and a stronger avoidance phenomenon in the {MPA}. {T}he high variability of the {MPA} environment submitted to both estuarine and marine influences and the size of the {MPA} may explain the lack of clear results. {H}owever, the learned lessons enable us to make recommendations to monitor fish population in {MPA}s using hydroacoustic methods. {E}valuation procedures using these methods are proposed highlighting the importance of a rigorous survey protocol to insure the exploitation of the entire acquired time series.}, keywords = {{SENEGAL} ; {SINE} {SALOUM} {ESTUAIRE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{HSOA} {J}ournal of {A}quaculture and {F}isheries}, volume = {2}, numero = {2}, pages = {art. no 011 [8 en ligne]}, ISSN = {2576-5523}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.24966/{AAF}-5523/100011}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076878}, }
