@article{fdi:010076669, title = {{A} transcriptome-based phylogenetic study of hard ticks ({I}xodidae)}, author = {{C}harrier, {N}. {P}. and {H}ermouet, {A}. and {H}ervet, {C}. and {A}goulon, {A}. and {B}arker, {S}. {C}. and {H}eylen, {D}. and {T}oty, {C}{\'e}line and {M}c{C}oy, {K}. {D}. and {P}lantard, {O}. and {R}ispe, {C}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{H}ard ticks are widely distributed across temperate regions, show strong variation in host associations, and are potential vectors of a diversity of medically important zoonoses, such as {L}yme disease. {T}o address unresolved issues with respect to the evolutionary relationships among certain species or genera, we produced novel {RNA}-{S}eq data sets for nine different {I}xodes species. {W}e combined this new data with 18 data sets obtained from public databases, both for {I}xodes and non-{I}xodes hard tick species, using soft ticks as an outgroup. {W}e assembled transcriptomes (for 27 species in total), predicted coding sequences and identified single copy orthologues ({SCO}). {U}sing {M}aximum-likelihood and {B}ayesian frameworks, we reconstructed a hard tick phylogeny for the nuclear genome. {W}e also obtained a mitochondrial {DNA}-based phylogeny using published genome sequences and mitochondrial sequences derived from the new transcriptomes. {O}ur results confirm previous studies showing that the {I}xodes genus is monophyletic and clarify the relationships among {I}xodes sub-genera. {T}his work provides a baseline for studying the evolutionary history of ticks: we indeed found an unexpected acceleration of substitutions for mitochondrial sequences of {P}rostriata, and for nuclear and mitochondrial genes of two species of {R}hipicephalus, which we relate with patterns of genome architecture and changes of life-cycle, respectively.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cientific {R}eports - {N}ature}, volume = {9}, numero = {}, pages = {art. 12923 [13 p.]}, ISSN = {2045-2322}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1038/s41598-019-49641-9}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076669}, }
