@article{fdi:010076645, title = {{S}ymbiotic properties of a chimeric {N}od-independent photosynthetic {B}radyrhizobium strain obtained by conjugative transfer of a symbiotic plasmid}, author = {{S}ongwattana, {P}. and {T}ittabutr, {P}. and {W}ongdee, {J}. and {T}eamtisong, {K}. and {W}ulandari, {D}. and {T}eulet, {A}. and {F}ardoux, {J}o{\¨e}l and {B}oonkerd, {N}. and {G}iraud, {E}ric and {T}eaumroong, {N}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he lateral transfer of symbiotic genes converting a predisposed soil bacteria into a legume symbiont has occurred repeatedly and independently during the evolution of rhizobia. {W}e experimented the transfer of a symbiotic plasmid between {B}radyrhizobium strains. {T}he originality of the {DOA}9 donor is that it harbours a symbiotic mega-plasmid (p{DOA}9) containing nod, nif and {T}3{SS} genes while the {ORS}278 recipient has the unique property of inducing nodules on some {A}eschynomene species in the absence of {N}od factors ({NF}s). {W}e observed that the chimeric strain {ORS}278-p{DOA}9* lost its ability to develop a functional symbiosis with {A}eschynomene. indica and {A}eschynomene evenia. {T}he mutation of rhc{N} and nod{B} led to partial restoration of nodule efficiency, indicating that {T}3{SS} effectors and {NF}s block the establishment of the {NF}-independent symbiosis. {C}onversely, {ORS}278-p{DOA}9* strain acquired the ability to form nodules on {C}rotalaria juncea and {M}acroptillium artropurpureum but not on {NF}-dependent {A}eschynomene ({A}. afraspera and {A}. americana), suggesting that the {ORS}278 strain also harbours incompatible factors that block the interaction with these species. {T}hese data indicate that the symbiotic properties of a chimeric rhizobia cannot be anticipated due to new combination of symbiotic and non-symbiotic determinants that may interfere during the interaction with the host plant.}, keywords = {}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}nvironmental {M}icrobiology}, volume = {21}, numero = {9}, pages = {3442--3454}, ISSN = {1462-2912}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1111/1462-2920.14650}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076645}, }
