@article{fdi:010076607, title = {{C}limate, land use and land cover changes in the {B}andama {B}asin ({C}ote {D}'{I}voire, {W}est {A}frica) and {I}ncidences on hydropower production of the {K}ossou dam}, author = {{K}ouame, {Y}. {M}. and {O}bahoundje, {S}. and {D}iedhiou, {A}rona and {F}rancois, {B}. and {A}moussou, {E}. and {A}nquetin, {S}. and {D}idi, {R}. {S}. and {K}ouassi, {L}. {K}. and {B}i, {V}. {H}. {N}. and {S}oro, {E}. {G}. and {Y}ao, {E}. {K}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}limate and land use/cover changes are potential drivers of change in hydrology and water use. {I}ncidences of these factors on {B}andama hydrological basin and {K}ossou hydropower generation (1981-2016) in {W}est {A}frica are assessed in this present work. {U}sing {L}andsat products of {U}nited {S}tated {G}eological {S}urvey, results show that water bodies areas and land use have increased by 1.89%/year and 11.56%/year respectively, whereas herbaceous savanna, savanna, forest and evergreen forest coverage have been reduced by 1.39%/year, 0.02%/year, 2.39%/year and 3.33%/year respectively from 1988 to 2016. {H}ydroclimatic analysis reveals that streamflow presents greater change in magnitude compared to rainfall though both increasing trends are not statistically significant at annual scale. {S}treamflow varies at least four (two) times greatly than the rainfall (monthly and seasonally) annually except during driest months probably due to land use/cover change. {I}n contrast, {K}ossou hydropower generation is significantly decreasing (p-value 0.007) at both monthly and annual scales possibly due to water abstraction at upstream. {F}urther works are required to elucidate the combined effects of land use/cover and climate changes on hydrological system as well as water abstraction on {K}ossou generation.}, keywords = {{R}ainfall ; streamflow ; land use ; land cover change ; hydropower ; hydropower generation ; {COTE} {D}'{IVOIRE} ; {BANDAMA} {BASSIN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{L}and}, volume = {8}, numero = {7}, pages = {103 [21 ]}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.3390/land8070103}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076607}, }
