  abstract = {{D}uring collecting trips to {M}adagascar in the last decade several {A}canthodrilidae sensu lato species were collected. {T}he newly acquired material expresses high variability of the excretory system containing meroic, holoic vesiculate and holoic avesiculate species. {T}he possible relationships of the {M}alagasy acanthodrilids is discussed and five species; {A}canthodrilus hesperus, {E}odriloides metandricus, {H}owascolex proprioporus, {H}owascolex vohimanus and {V}azimbascolex alaotranus spp. n. are described. {V}azimbascolex gen. n. represents also a new genus to science. {T}he holoic avesiculate {A}canthodrilus majungianus {M}ichaelsen, 1897 and {A}. voeltzkowi {M}ichaelsen, 1897 are conditionally transferred to the {S}outh {A}frican genus {E}odriloides {Z}icsi, 1998; {E}odrilus dauphinianus {M}ichaelsen, 1910 and {M}icroscolex ({N}otiodrilus) hyalochaeta {M}ichaelsen, 1907 to {H}owascolex {M}ichaelsen, 1901.},
