@article{fdi:010076578, title = {{F}easibility of using dried blood spots for {HIV} viral load testing among {HIV}-infected individuals in {T}hailand using {QIAGEN} {QIA}symphony-artus {HIV}-1 platform}, author = {{T}hepbundit, {V}. and {N}go-{G}iang-{H}uong, {N}icole and {S}alvadori, {N}icolas and {L}aolue, {A}. and {K}unyanone, {N}. and {S}ata-un, {J}. and {J}ourdain, {G}onzague and {S}irirungsi, {W}. and {K}hamduang, {W}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n settings where plasma preparation and sample centralization are not feasible or inconvenient, dried blood spots ({DBS}) could be used as an alternative specimen to plasma to assess antiretroviral treatment response among {HIV}-infected individuals. {T}his study was aimed to (1) validate the recent {QIA}symphony-artus assay for {DBS} {HIV} viral load ({VL}) and (2) assess the feasibility of measuring {HIV} {VL} on {DBS} using this assay in {T}hailand. {E}thylenediaminetetraacetic acid-blood samples from 99 {HIV}-infected individuals were used to prepare paired {DBS} and plasma. {A}lso, {DBS} samples were shipped to three distant hospitals in the northern region. {A}fter short-term storage, {DBS} were returned by regular post to the {AMS} laboratory and were re-tested for {HIV} {VL} using the same platform. {HIV} {VL} results were compared using {P}earson's correlation and {B}land-{A}ltman analysis. {DBS} {HIV} {VL} fairly correlated to plasma {HIV} {VL} ({R} = 0.62) with a mean difference of 0.02 log(10){IU}/m{L} ({SD} = 1.06). {A} high correlation ({R} = 0.79) was observed between {HIV} {VL} in {DBS} before and after shipping (mean difference = 0.14 log(10){IU}/m{L}, {SD} = 0.74), indicating good stability of {HIV} {RNA} in {DBS}. {DBS} can be used as an alternative specimen for {HIV} {VL} monitoring in {T}hailand. {H}owever, measurement of {HIV} {VL} with the {QIAGEN} {QIA}symphony-artus assay should be improved, especially the {DBS} pre-extraction process.}, keywords = {{DBS} ; {HIV} {RNA} load ; {HIV} {RNA} measurement ; {HIV} {RNA} quantification ; performance ; plasma viral load ; {THAILANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {M}edical {V}irology}, volume = {91}, numero = {9}, pages = {1652--1659}, ISSN = {0146-6615}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1002/jmv.25506}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076578}, }
