@article{fdi:010076200, title = {{R}isk factors of exposure to {A}edes albopictus bites in mainland {F}rance using an immunological biomarker}, author = {{P}oinsignon, {A}nne and {B}oulanger, {D}enis and {B}inetruy, {F}. and {E}lguero, {E}ric and {D}arriet, {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}ric and {G}allian, {P}. and {L}amballerie, {X}. de and {C}harrel, {R}. {N}. and {R}emou{\'e}, {F}ranck}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n recent decades, the invasive {A}edes albopictus vector has spread across {E}urope and is responsible for numerous outbreaks of autochthonous arboviral disease. {T}he aim of this study was to identify epidemiological and sociological risk factors related to individual levels of exposure to {A}edes albopictus bites. {A} multidisciplinary survey was conducted with volunteer blood donors living in areas either colonised or not by {A}edes albopictus in mainland {F}rance. {I}ndividual levels of exposure were evaluated by measuring the {I}g{G} level specific to {A}edes albopictus saliva. {T}he most striking risk factors concerned the localisation and characteristics of the dwelling. {I}ndividuals living in areas colonised prior to 2009 or recently colonised (between 2010 and 2012) had higher anti-salivary gland extract {I}g{G} levels compared with those who were living in areas not yet colonised by {A}e. albopictus. {T}he type of dwelling did not seem to impact the level of exposure to {A}edes bites. {P}eople living in apartments had a higher anti-salivary gland extract {I}g{G} level than those living in individual houses but the difference was not statistically significant. {I}nterestingly, the presence of air conditioning or window nets was associated with a noticeable reduction in bite intensity.}, keywords = {{A}rboviruses ; {ELISA} ; immuno-epidemiology ; vectors ; risk of exposure ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}pidemiology and {I}nfection}, volume = {147}, numero = {}, pages = {art. no e238 [7 ]}, ISSN = {0950-2688}, year = {2019}, DOI = {10.1017/s0950268819001286}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010076200}, }
