@book{fdi:010075695, title = {{C}hecklist of the marine and estuarine fishes of {N}ew {I}reland {P}rovince, {P}apua {N}ew {G}uinea, western {P}acific {O}cean, with 810 new records}, author = {{F}ricke, {R}. and {A}llen, {G}. {R}. and {A}mon, {D}. and {A}ndr{\'e}fou{\¨e}t, {S}erge and {C}hen, {W}. {J}. and {K}inch, {J}. and {M}ana, {R}. and {R}ussell, {B}. {C}. and {T}ully, {D}. and {W}hite, {W}. {T}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A} checklist of the marine and estuarine fishes of {N}ew {I}reland {P}rovince is presented, with special emphasis on {K}avieng {D}istrict, combining both previous and new records. {A}fter the recent {KAVIENG} 2014 expedition, a total of 1325 species in 153 families were recorded from the region. {T}he largest families are the {G}obiidae, {P}omacentridae, {L}abridae, {S}erranidae, {A}pogonidae, {L}utjanidae, {C}haetodontidae, {B}lenniidae, {C}arangidae, {A}canthuridae, {S}caridae, {H}olocentridae, {S}yngnathidae, {L}ethrinidae and {S}corpaenidae. {A} total of 810 fish species (61.1 % of the total marine and estuarine fish fauna) are recorded from {N}ew {I}reland for the first time. {T}he fish fauna of {N}ew {I}reland includes 142 species in transitional waters and 1264 species in marine habitats, and 54 species species in freshwater habitats. {Z}oogeographically, 1179 species have a wide distribution range, most frequently a broad {I}ndo-{W}est {P}acific distribution. {A}mong the remaining species, just 12 are endemic to {N}ew {I}reland.}, keywords = {fishes ; {P}apua {N}ew {G}uinea ; {N}ew {I}reland ; checklist ; distribution ; endemism ; new records ; {PACIFIQUE} {OUEST} ; {PAPOUASIE} {NOUVELLE} {GUINEE}}, address = {{A}uckland}, publisher = {{M}agnolia {P}ress}, series = {{Z}ootaxa}, pages = {360}, year = {2019}, ISBN = {978-1-77670-642-6}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010075695}, }
