Objective. - The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and tolerance of Inoserp (R) Panafrican antivenom in peripheral health structures. Method. - A management algorithm defined according to preliminary clinical studies was used. Results. - During 20 months, 66 envenomed patients attended health centers, out of whom 63 treated by Inoserp (R) Panafrican. The population was representative of snake bitten patients in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite a high average treatment delay according to the level of the concerned health premises, and 25% of the recorded protocol deviations, this antivenom appeared to be effective and very well tolerated. Conclusions. - Our results make it possible to envisage the implementation of the protocol of care at the national level and to reinforce the accessibility of the antivenins. Awareness and training of health professionals in the management of snakebites is essential to improve the evolution of envenomations.
