@article{fdi:010074502, title = {{W}hat interventions are required to reduce road traffic injuries in {A}frica ? : a scoping review of the literature}, author = {{B}onnet, {E}mmanuel and {L}echat, {L}. and {R}idde, {V}al{\'e}ry}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{R}oad traffic accidents are the major cause of mortality among people aged 15-29 years in {A}frica. {W}orld {H}ealth {O}rganisation ({WHO}) and the {W}orld {B}ank launched a {D}ecade of {A}ction for {R}oad {S}afety in 2011 with the goal of halving the number of injuries and deaths on the roads. {N}o progress has been reported in {L}ow and {M}iddle {I}ncome {C}ountries ({LMIC}s) and the number of deaths remains very high. {T}o reach the target set, there is a need for interventions in several areas. {T}his scoping review proposes to produce a synthesis by identifying the kinds of interventions and outcomes which have been carried out on the {A}frican continent. {U}sing the scoping studies method, 23 articles were selected and analysed. {T}he study shows that interventions were developed in four fields: road safety policy, health education, safety equipment and data collection. {I}t shows also that there were records of interventions in only twelve countries, mostly in {E}astern and {S}outhern {A}frica. {T}he main conclusion of this study reveals both a lack of road safety interventions and shortcomings in the assessment of those performed and selected for our study.}, keywords = {{AFRIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{PL}o{S} {O}ne}, volume = {13}, numero = {11}, pages = {e0208195 [20 ]}, ISSN = {1932-6203}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1371/journal.pone.0208195}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010074502}, }
