@article{fdi:010073825, title = {{S}ylvatic {T}riatomines ({H}emiptera: {R}eduviidae) in {B}olivia : trends toward domesticity and possible infection with {T}rypanosoma cruzi ({K}inetoplastida: {T}rypanosomatidae)}, author = {{N}oireau, {F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {B}osseno, {M}arie-{F}rance and {C}arrasco, {R}. and {T}elleria, {J}enny and {V}argas, {F}. and {C}amacho, {C}. and {Y}aksic, {N}. and {B}reni{\`e}re, {S}imone {F}r{\'e}d{\'e}rique}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he risk of domestic transmission of {T}rypanosoma cruzi ({C}hagas) by sylvatic triatomines was assessed in an isolated area of the subandean region of {B}olivia. {N}one of the 390 residents examined had serological evidence of infection. {T}wo sylvatic triatomine species, {E}ratyrus mucronatus ({S}tal) and {T}riatoma sordida ({S}tal), were found in houses and in peridomestic structures. {T}he collection of nymphal instars of both species from some houses indicated possible domesticity. {M}icroscopic examination of feces from 92 insects showed no parasites, and cultures from the guts of 30 insects were negative. {N}evertheless, a polymerase chain reaction ({PCR}) test performed on the same fecal samples showed the presence of {T}. cruzi {DNA} in 19.1 and 12.5% of {E}. mucronatus and {T}. sordida, respectively. {T}hese 16 {PCR}-positive samples were hybridized with 2 {T}. cruzi-specific probes known from the domestic cycle in {B}olivia (clones 20 and 39). {A}t least 1 of these clones was identified in 7 bugs (5 {E}. mucronatus and 2 {T}. sordida). {M}oreover, no hybridization was observed with these probes in 8 {E}. mucronatus and 1 {T}. sordida samples that showed an amplified band by {PCR}. {T}hese data indicated that {T}. cruzi clones, genetically unrelated to clones 20 and 30, also were circulating in this area. {B}ased on these results, the 2 sylvatic triatomine species encountered in {A}polo should not be overlooked as possible local vectors of {T}. cruzi.}, keywords = {{MALADIE} {DE} {CHAGAS} ; {VECTEUR} ; {TRANSMISSION} ; {INFECTION} ; {SEROLOGIE} ; {BOLIVIE} ; {ANDES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {M}edical {E}ntomology}, volume = {32}, numero = {5}, pages = {594--598}, ISSN = {0022-2585}, year = {1995}, DOI = {10.1093/jmedent/32.5.594}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010073825}, }
