@article{fdi:010072432, title = {{F}irst record of a rare deep-sea copepod, {G}aussia intermedia defaye, 1998 ({C}alanoida, {M}etridinidae), from the {A}tlantic ocean}, author = {{A}lves-{J}unior, {F}. {A}. and {B}ertrand, {A}rnaud and {M}elo, {P}amc and {C}orreia, {E}. {P}. and {F}igueiredo, {L}. {G}. {P}. and {N}eumann-{L}eitao, {S}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}opepod crustaceans of the genus {G}aussia inhabit open ocean waters in epipelagic and bathypelagic zones from 0 to 5000 m. {T}hey show high-speed vertical migration and bioluminescent characteristics. {I}n the {A}tlantic {O}cean only the species {G}. asymmetrica {B}jornberg {T}. {K}. {S}. & {C}ampaner, 1988 and {G}. princeps ({S}cott {T}., 1894) have been recorded previously. {W}e report the first occurrence of the rarely recorded {G}. intermedia {D}efaye, 1998 for the {A}tlantic off {B}razil. {T}he specimens were collected around the {R}ocas {A}toll (3 degrees 51'{S} 33 degrees 49'{W}), through the {ABRACOS} ({A}coustic along the {BR}azilian {CO}ast) project on board {R}/{V} "{A}ntea" in {O}ctober 2015, using a micronekton net (mesh size 1 mm) and oblique hauls. {F}ive specimens were collected at {R}ocas {A}toll, in depths of 510-525 m. {T}his finding expands the global distribution of {G}. intermedia and is the first occurrence in the {A}tlantic {O}cean, updating the checklist of meso-bathypelagic copepods for {B}razilian waters.}, keywords = {{ATLANTIQUE} ; {BRESIL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}rustaceana}, volume = {91}, numero = {4}, pages = {501--508}, ISSN = {0011-216{X}}, year = {2018}, DOI = {10.1163/15685403-00003776}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010072432}, }
